• Ph.D. (Dr. rer. pol.), University of Regensburg , Germany , 1992

Present Position:

• Head of the IMF's regional office for Central Europe and the Baltics (since February 2005).

• Support of the IMF's surveillance in the region, particularly with respect to framing and executing plans for euro adoption.

IMF Career:

• Joined the IMF in 1993, first in the African Department and then in the European II Department working on Russia , Georgia , Azerbaijan .

• 1998-2001 Resident Representative in Uzbekistan .

• 2001-2005 Deputy Division Chief in the Policy Development Department, focusing on emerging market countries (mainly Argentina , Brazil , Turkey , Uruguay , Lebanon ) and the analysis of debt-related financial vulnerabilities.

• 2004 Mission Chief for Seychelles .

Previous Positions :

• Free-lance journalist for various German newspapers and business magazines (1985-1992).

• Lecturer, University of Regensburg (1989-1993).
